Fire Up Your Imagination

Featuring lavish costumes and breathtaking acrobatics,
Cirque du Soleil
will bring its critically acclaimed touring production Alegría to the RBC Center in Raleigh, July 6–10.

The mission of Cirque du Soleil is to feed the imagination and emotions. Titled for a Spanish word for jubilation, athleticism meets artistry in Alegría, from the sensuous Synchro Trapeze and the high-energy Aerial High Bars, more than 40 feet above the stage, to the Mongolian art of contortion and the Fire-Knife Dance.

Alegría is a visual wonderland full of richly colored costumes, painstakingly hand-detailed with lace, feathers and sequins. And the show’s musical score, performed live, moves between jazz, pop, tango and klezmer, evoking the sound of traveling minstrels with acoustic instruments, as well as synthesizer arrangements.

Topped with a giant dome and decorated with stylistic columns and balustrades, the elaborate Alegría set is an imposing monument. The stage floor is dappled with splotches of impressionistic color and light.

Alegría has entertained more than 10 million people worldwide since its 1994 premiere, and features an international cast of 55 performers and musicians from 17 countries. This marks the production’s first visit to the Triangle area.

Alegria Costume Facts:

•Alegría has more than 400 costume pieces including custom-made shoes, wigs, hats and accessories.

•The costumes are produced in Montreal at the Cirque du Soleil International Headquarters, where more than 300 artisans are employed in the costume workshops.

•It takes approximately 200 hours to create one Old Bird costume.

•Each of the singers’ costumes includes more than 200 hand-sewn jewels.

2nd Annual Marine 5K Mud Run

Saturday, June 11th at Jomeokee Park in Pinnacle, NC

If you missed out on the first event, you're missing out on the dirtiest fun you'll ever have with a 5K race! It's a pretty muddy affair! Many folks ask how tough is the course? It can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be. There are semi-professional runners down to your neighbor next door.

One thing is for sure. When you run this race, the Marines will make sure you finish it. Part of the Marines Creed is to never leave another Marine behind. And for this event, no runners will be left behind!
Race times:

5k Individual Race - 8:00 am

Pollywog Jog - 9:30 am

5k Team Race - 10:15 am

Runners will be required to be at the race site no later than one and a half hours prior to your race. The races will run on time with or without you. You should give yourself adequate time to park, pick up your race packet, and put your running bib number on.
Please read the following carefully:
Registration fees are as follows: Individual Racers-$25 ($35 on race day), Team Race-$100 ($140 on race day), Pollywogs-$10 ($20 on race day)

Mail-in Registration forms must be postmarked no later than Friday, June 3, 2011.

Online registration will close on Monday, June 6th at 11:59 PM EST.

All teams must have 4 runners (no exceptions). If you don't have 4 members, please run in the individual race. You can still run together with your friends.

We encourage you to register online and avoid long lines on Race Day.

TOP 10 REASONS TO JOIN THE MUD RUN
10.You've already done every other run in town, out of town, down town, around town…

9.You need a new t-shirt, or at least one with a cool graphic.

8.You'll have something good to talk about on Monday morning.

7.Bonding! You'll never be in another situation where total strangers now feel like your closest friends.

6.You're looking for an excuse to throw out those grungy old running shoes.

5.Remember splashing in mud puddles as a kid? Here's your chance to tune into your inner child and not only splash in them, but crawl through them.

4.Running on pavement doesn't make that satisfyingly squishy sound.

3.You're looking for another place to wear your Halloween costume, wedding dress, or plaid pants.

2.You've heard about the therapeutic benefits of a mud bath, but a trip to a California spa is out of your budget.

1.A fun event that requires being sloppy, helps our Marines AND offers a chance to win awards…it's a NO BRAINER!
